Faster. Closer. Smarter. News from BT Financial Services. BT Unified Trading and BT Radianz

A winning combination

Robin Farnan

As the new MD of BT Unified Trading, I am delighted to welcome you to our new-look newsletter. I have chosen to call it Faster. Closer. Smarter because I believe that this is what the award-winning combination of BT Unified Trading delivered over the BT Radianz Cloud will help you achieve.

The BT Radianz Cloud, the world's largest secure networked financial community of over 15,000 member sites, brings you faster exchange of market information, trading, clearing and settlement of secure transactions. Serving more than 170 countries, BT brings you closer to your customers anywhere in the world with a powerful range of solutions that offer you smarter ways of reducing complexity and increasing liquidity across the STP chain.

We continue to innovate. At TradeTech Europe we announced plans for a new cloud-based biometric identity management solution based on Hitachi's Finger Vein Authentication technology, which will add federated identity management to the rich collaboration and compliance capabilities of our Unified Trading portfolio. And with BT Radianz Venue we are creating a low latency lattice network that interconnects key venues and market data centres around the world with new hosting centre nodes that really interconnect those venues and link up the market.

This issue is packed with news about how we can help you work faster, closer and smarter. We hope you enjoy it.

Introducing BT Unified Trading voice messaging

With BT Unified Trading voice messaging, an exciting new service we have just added to our collaboration server, you can get up-to-the-minute information to your clients first time, every time. It is an application that allows you to send sound bites of new market intelligence recorded by your analysts and researchers directly to your clients' desktop. Since the advice comes from them, it is already preauthorised and compliance checked, and you can use it as a teaser to generate follow-up conversations with clients in a warm, natural way that's easier to convert into actual deals.

"This market is all about adding value, and investors expect their portfolio managers or their investor relationship managers to be able to generate ideas," explains Apu Mitra, BT Unified Trading head of application sales. "Investors are pushing sell side firms to get closer to them with their research and the value of the services they provide. So this is an excellent way of being able to communicate those value-added services."

BT Unified Trading voice messaging can be supplied as a hosted solution that allows you to flex up and down in response to changing business conditions.

BT in the news

Creating a fabric for the future

A ten-foot spinning globe topped BT's stand at this year's TradeTech Europe where BT Unified Trading and BT solutions for the financial services market were showcased.

Speaking at the event in April where BT was a lead sponsor, Tom Regent, president Global Banking & Financial Markets and Sales & Marketing BT, delivered a keynote speech, touching on the key themes affecting the industry today such as big data, visualisation, cloud technology, global connectivity, security, regulation and risk.

With the exponential growth in messaging volumes and the need to execute lightning fast trades, financial services firms are increasingly turning to cloud technology and global connectivity, which can eliminate the effect of distance, unify pools of liquidity and help them work smarter, said Tom. Techniques like visualisation could also help spot trends and market moves and even anticipate cyber-attacks before they strike, he went on. "We are in a new era driven by the cloud, which is not one of dots and lines connecting the market players, but instead a closely interwoven fabric in which the market itself operates," he concluded.

Alexandra Foster

Alexandra Foster global head of sales, BT Radianz & Payments BT Global Services (pictured left) chaired a series of lively and controversial debates and presentations at this year's TradeTech attended by regulators, exchanges and CCPs among others.

BT Assure addresses personal devices, cloud solutions, and 'big data' security issues

Cybersecurity threats, accidental or intentional employee data loss and increasing use of personal devices on employers' networks are the three biggest security risks perceived by IT decision-makers, a BT survey has revealed. In particular, BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) is making progress within the corporate environment, with 60 per cent of employees using personal devices for work, and especially high usage in countries such as China and India (92 per cent and 80 per cent).

The research results also demonstrate that the traditional secure outer perimeter of enterprise networks no longer exists and that specific tools are required to measure, understand and address this new security reality. BT has announced innovations to its BT Assure security portfolio designed to help organisations address security issues such as these...read more

Clearing and Settlement AS-WG Working Group meets again

BT's Chris Pickles and Alexandra Foster (pictured left) with Financial Services Club chairman Chris Skinner (right) at the inaugural meeting.

The third plenary meeting of the Clearing & Settlement Working Group (CAS-WG), of which BT is a founder sponsor, took place on 18 July at the BT Auditorium in Newgate Street, London. It was an important event for the clearing and settlement community, as the EU issued a consultation paper which will change the trading of derivatives at the end of June. The Working Group intends to input views around these rule changes between now and the end of August.

Four specialist Subject Groups formed at the CAS-WG inaugural meeting have already held initial meetings that aim to absorb, debate and discuss the implications of change from the European Market Infrastructures Regulation (EMIR) and other changes introduced by the FSA, European Commission, Bank of International Settlements (BIS) Basel Committee and more.
