The future delivered: News from Trading Communications - Global Banking and Financial Markets, BT

A message from Howard Boville

Howard Boville

"Here at BT we spend £1.2 bn every year on R&D.

"In the trading systems business, where hardware and software are constantly evolving, we know that what we design today needs to be flexible enough to meet the needs of our customers 5 or 10 years from now and beyond. It has to suit everyone in the trading community – from the broker-dealers who prefer doing business over the phone, to the fixed income traders who prefer to watch the screens for clues as to where the market is headed.

"Today, we are at an inflection point on the curve of integration between voice and electronic trading. That means all communication streams – be they voice, data and even video need to work together at the trader desktop in ways never seen before.

"You have worked with us every step of the way to create our new collaboration suite. You've given us your feedback and tested our solutions on the trading floor. We may not know how this story will end – but we do know that we will continue our dialogue with you to deliver the future of trading communications."

BT shares its vision and roadmap for trading communications at The Future Delivered

Some 200 market professionals from across finance, banking and broking came together at Stationers' Hall in London on 2 February to debate and discuss the challenges they are facing in the market and to hear BT's vision for the future of Trading Communications. Key themes at the event were cloud computing, federation, identity management, collaboration, risk and compliance and how BT's next generation voice trading platform is taking voice technology out of the data centre and into the cloud.

Jappy Takhar, Head of Capital Markets Innovation Global Banking and Financial Markets, BT, on BT's collaboration service: "Federated identity is about knowing who's who and being sure you are doing a trade with the right individual at any given moment"..

Ralph Silva, Director Silva Research Network: "Cloud computing in the capital markets is really about speed. It's about getting information far more quickly and if it's sitting in the cloud you should be able to do that."
